Winterporte: Woes & Wonders
Demons and other Entities from Outer Realms occasionally find that it can be easier to transfer their consciousness into the Material Plane than trying to force a physical form between dimensions. Some lack physical forms to begin with, while others find that their natural forms are too unwieldy too pass through portals, or are impractical in a universe with static physical laws. For whatever reason, this often means that to act physically in the realm, it becomes necessary for a foreign intelligence to force itself into a physical form after its arrival. usually the difficulties associated with trying to replace an extant intelligence already attached to a corporeal form along with other complications involved in maintaining a non-corporeal form on the Material Plane, often render such attempts total failures, or short lived forays. Even the most artful and powerful intrusions can usually last only a short period. Nevertheless, there can be dire consequences for the vessel of such a violation. Many of these stem from a lack of understanding on the part of these infesting intelligences, many of them not realizing that there are tasks which must be performed (and actions that have to be avoided) in order to keep the host alive. This means that many forays can be ended quite abruptly, if the invading entity can’t force the host to keep functioning even past death. simply walking into a room with a freshly possessed host can illicit a failure to maintain the connection, or make the parasite turn a head too violently for its physiology to support, killing them.
